Our Equipment
Ghostbusting takes a myriad of equipment. Much of the equipment, like the iconic Proton Pack, come in different variations between different movies and cartoon versions. You will find most of this equipment and more when you come visit us at our convention booths. The Massachusetts Ghostbusters takes pride in making many of our props from scratch or modifying existing commercial options available.
Here are some of our best builds.
-
Steph's Afterlife Pack
A scratch-built 3D printed pack and wand, complete with lighting and sound kit. This build started as an '84 pack, but as photos were released ahead of the 2021 movie release, I decided to change it to our group's first Afterlife pack. This pack is unique, proving that it's possible to finish and paint 3D printed parts to look distressed and realistic.

David's 2016 Suit
Custom-made 2016 flight suit
-
Jeff's GB1 Ghost Trap
This is my first prop and the inspiration to get into Arduino programming. The files were found on Thingiverse from user Countspatula. The trap body and pedal are 3D printed and minimally post-processed. I used some caution stripe tape on the doors and painted the gray and red details. The Arduino program mirrors the trap sequence from the Sedwick hotel trapping slimer. The trap has the same light, sound, and door motion sequence.

Dave's Frozen Empire Jacket
You're going to see some of our group sporting the super-posh red jacket shown in 2024's Frozen Empire. That's all thanks to this guy, who's wife just happens to work as an amazing seamstress! They researched the coat before the film premiered, and custom designed the jacket template, sourced material, insulated for Massachusetts events, and have made several of them on commission. We hope to see even more coats at our events in years to come.

Real Ghostbusters Pack
Another 3D printed pack. David made this one for one of his daughters after she outgrew the mini cartoon back. Finished and painted with some realistic distressing, it's a beautiful blend between the cartoon world and real life. Final size approx. 80% scale.

Dave’s Belt Gizmo
Dave’s custom built Belt Gizmo has many unique features. It is crafted from an aircraft circuit board, resin printed nixie tubes, and a multitude of scrap electronic components. LEDs and a bar-graph give life to the gizmo and illuminate night events. This gizmo attaches to its secondary board with a coil cable, and to Embergale’s pack itself through a magnetic quick release. The design intent behind this Belt Gizmo was to give more purpose and character to the iconic costume addon and to integrate a design similar to Adam Savage’s “Attenuator”, showing this device is monitoring and regulating what is going on with the Ghostbuster’s equipment.
-
Jeff's RGB Pack
This is a full-size, 3D-printed RGB equipment set. The files are freely available on Patreon through Ghostbusters Gear with some custom designed parts mixed in. The goal of this project was to go as much from printer-to-pack as possible. Everything except the yellow tubing is 3D printed with no smoothing or painting. The electronics for the pack are Arduino based found on the Patreon page, and the electronics for the Neutrona Wand are a custom Arduino program that incorporates lights AND sound as a stand-alone prop.
-
Dave’s Shandor Mine Reclamation Pack
Dave aka [EMBERGALE]’s pack started as a Haslab Proton Pack based on Phobe Spengler’s Proton Pack as seen in Afterlife. This pack has been updated with custom styling, an always-on bypass, internal battery pack, modified “snack door” for easy charging, and a cable to connect to the custom belt gizmo. The design intent behind the pack was to represent a pack that was scavenged from Shandor Mine and The Dirt Farm and restored to working condition, but still sporting a lot of the distress and damage.

Ecto 1A
Ok, this one isn't exactly ours, but we can't help bragging about our friend's Ecto! Several of our members helped him fix and modify it. You can see this beauty rolling around Taunton, at local parades, and usually at Boston FanExpo and Rhode Island Comic Con. By the way - he does private events and photoshoots! Check out our FAQ page for contact info.
-
David's Containment Unit
Built from PVC board with working door and lights, you'll see this often at our convention booths. David fabricated this with the intention of being free-standing so we could transport it to different events without being anchored to a wall.

Site Box
Using a construction site box is a great way to store not only a Proton Pack, but a Ghostbuster’s entire compliment of equipment and uniform. This makes it a great way to move equipment discreetly.
