Frequently Asked Questions.
Do your Proton Packs actually work?
Unfortunately, getting our hands on the isotope fuel is difficult, so they won’t actually fire a proton stream. However, our props are the next best thing with the look and sound of the Proton Packs found in the films and cartoon shows.
Do you have an Ecto?
We know a guy! Our good buddy Nick is the only mechanic we know that can keep a real 1959 Cadillac ambulance running. Sometimes we are at the same events as he is, like RICC, but he does his own thing. But YES you can contact him for special occasion photos, birthday parties, rides to prom - you name it. Just tell him MAGB sent ya!
Contact Jenna and Nick for more information.

How do you make your props?
There are many ways that we have built our props. One of the most recent developments is 3D printing. We have a bright blue pack styled after The Real Ghostbusters cartoon that is 3D printed with no post-processing. All the color of the pack is exactly how it came off the printer and is a showcase for what 3D printing can look like. Other packs use 3D printing to generate the individual parts, and then they are extensively post-processed. This involves sanding parts to reduce layer lines, applying wood filler or epoxy resin to further smooth the parts, more sanding, and then applying the paint, hoses, labels, and weathering effects.
Getting into the world of Ghostbusters is easier than ever before with many great commercial options available. Spirit Halloween and Hasbro/Haslab have put out great props at competitive prices. These types of commercial props can be used as they come, or they can serve as a base for modifications. Everything from the lights, sounds, power source, and stylized pieces can be added onto the base model for a customized prop.
There are various parts kits available for those who want to build their own props that may not have the ability to make the individual parts. These kits can be either plastic or metal for higher-end builds. Either option still requires plenty of work for assembly, electronics, and final paint and decals.
The final option is to commission a prop builder to make a prop. This is the simplest method, but also the most expensive. In addition to the cost of materials used to create the prop, you’re also paying for the builders time and expertise.
Can I join the Massachusetts Ghostbusters?
So, you want to join the Massachusetts Ghostbusters, that’s great! You can fill out the contact form on the home page and we will reach out to you. You don’t need to be fully outfitted with Proton Pack to get started, but we do require a flight suit with nametag and No-Ghost patch. When you first join, you’ll be a recruit with no commitment or dues required. Once you attend and participate in two events, you can decide to become a member with the option of paying a small annual dues fee for priority access to event passes. Dues help our group to cover operational costs and booth exhibits.
I don’t live near Massachusetts - are there other Ghostbuster groups?
Boy, are there! Every Ghostbuster group operates a little differently - some do charity, some don’t, and each has different leadership and criteria for joining. If you’re looking for other groups, below is a great resource to find and contact them.
Can I have the Massachusetts Ghostbusters come to one of my events?
We are open to events. You can check out our calendar schedule to see our overall availability. We do ask for at least two weeks notice so we can coordinate with our Ghostbuster volunteers for individual availability. If we are able to attend an event, we ask that we either be able to setup some type of booth and/or receive a donation payment to support our charity causes. You can reach out to us using the contact form on the home page. (See above FAQ for info about the Ecto!)
